# 764 Sutter Ave

764 Sutter Ave

## ENTRY

Before: Dominating the foyer is a massive, curved staircase, whose presence is meant to draw the eye inward. However, the beige wood of the stairs and railing against the tan color of the walls completely washed out the space, making it feel one-dimensional.

After: A fresh coat of neutral grey paint sets a more modern tone for the space, and complements the newly painted white staircase, allowing the eye to naturally follow the curves of the railing up to the skylight.

## KITCHEN

Before: Though the gorgeous granite countertops, slab full backsplash, and stainless-steel appliances showcased style, the light wood and beige walls painted the kitchen in a monochromatic scheme. Not only was the cabinetry similar in color to the wall, but the floor as well, offering very little in terms of variation in texture or color.

After: White cabinets and dark floors create a stark contrast between the deep color of the granite backsplash and countertops. This balance of light and dark allows the eye to settle on specific, yet important features of the kitchen, like the gorgeous island with the breakfast bar seating, or the extensive window which allows in abundant natural light. The soft grey also highlights the white crown molding, making the space feel brighter and more clean-cut.

## LIVING ROOM

Before: A space this grand deserves to look its best, but despite the oversized windows and high trey ceilings, this room felt more crowded and cramped than crowned with beauty. Immediately, the eye is first drawn to the handsome fireplace, then to the immense bookshelf that looks almost out of place with its rich, dark wood. The room feesl dim and bland with echoing tones of beige and tan that minimize the space instead of expanding it.

After: The lighter walls starkly contrast against the dark wood floor, while the crown molding frames the space in clean, crisp lines, adding another sightline to the room and making it feel more spacious. With the wet bar uncovered, it not only becomes more accessible, but it adds a great feature to a space now perfect for entertaining.
